The major indexes slipped Friday morning on a poor earnings report from Intel as Wall Street attempts to lock in a winning week — and more in Friday’s stock market recap.
The tech company and chip-maker missed on both top- and bottom-line estimates, causing shares to drop more than 10% in premarket trading.
Meanwhile, Friday morning’s core Personal Consumption Expenditures price index came in at 4.4% year over year.
That’s in line with estimates, and when combined with Thursday’s better-than-expected gross domestic product, has investors hopeful the U.S. economy can stick a soft landing as the Federal Reserve raises rates to curb inflation.
Next week brings the Fed’s latest interest rate decision, with investors expecting a 0.25% hike.
In this morning’s stock market recap video, I’ll discuss which index is approaching the 200-day line… whether earnings or Fed data is driving markets and price action… what bonds are doing and how they’re impacting stocks… if it’s time to get bearish or stay bullish… a review of earnings and what to expect next week… plus how to navigate the current market landscape without stepping on landmines!
