The major indexes climbed higher to start the week as financial stocks rebounded.
First Republic Bank (NYSE: FRC) surged more than 23% during premarket trading while PacWest Bancorp (Nasdaq: PACW) also gained more than 10%. These moves caused the SPDR S&P Regional Banking ETF (NYSE: KRE) to rise more than 3%.
Investors are looking to move on from this month’s banking crisis that ignited in the wake of Silicon Valley Bank’s collapse. And despite the crisis, the S&P 500 is set to end the month of March flat, and close the first quarter of 2023 up 3%.
