The major indexes slipped Tuesday morning as investors considered the latest round of earnings reports.

First Republic Bank fell more than 20% after revealing that deposits dropped 40% in the first quarter, and that it will have to trim expenses in the second quarter.

Shipping company UPS missed earnings and revenue estimates, causing shares to fall almost 5%.

But investors are most keen to see how tech giants Alphabet Inc. Class A (Nasdaq: GOOGL) and Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) perform when they report after the close Tuesday.
