The major indexes moved higher Thursday morning following the Federal Reserve’s 0.25% rate hike Wednesday afternoon.
The Fed also indicated it plans to ease back, and that just one more hike could be in the works for the rest of 2023.
Chair Jerome Powell also said the Fed wasn’t considering rate hikes at this time.
Some of his comments caused fear to grip the markets Wednesday afternoon, however.
Powell said the recent collapse of Silicon Valley Bank could cause financial conditions to tighten. Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said regulators aren’t considering a guarantee for all U.S. deposits without congressional approval.
