The major indexes stumbled Thursday morning as investors considered the latest round of earnings reports.
Disappointing results from Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) dragged down tech stocks as the electric car manufacturer reported a decline of more than 20% in both net income and GAAP earnings compared to the previous year. The news caused shares to fall more than 7%.
About 16% of S&P 500 companies have reported earnings so far, with 62% beating expectations, according to FactSet.
Many investors are bracing for a decline this season, and the lack of profits and strong forward guidance has been cause for concern.
