The major indexes were flat Tuesday morning as investors awaited the latest comments from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.
Powell is scheduled to speak at 10 a.m. ET on the state of the economy and where he expects interest rates to go next. His comments will likely determine the market’s direction in the short term, at least until we get the latest jobs data on Friday.
Tuesday also brings January wholesale inventories and consumer credit data, which will give us more information about the health of the economy.
In this morning’s stock market recap video, I’ll discuss why the bond market isn’t giving us the full story right now… which sectors we have to watch for clues… why Powell could surprise the markets today… which sectors to stay away from right now… plus which stocks I’m bullish on and which ones I’m selling!
